The 2012 TED Conference featured a simulcast lounge from the Syfy network entitled The Imaginarium. Inside, attendees were greeted with a variety of elements designed to intrigue and engage. The main focal point of the Syfy space was the brand’s introduction of their trans-media platform Defiance. An immersion pod designed to bring attendees into the game was created in collaboration with game developer Trion to allow consumers to customize their own Defiance avatar and receive a beta-user account for the release of the game. In addition, iPad painting, life-sized Syfy creatures, simulcast stations, and the TED director’s feed – offering real-time camera feeds from around the conference – were all part of the experience.
