Calliope Branding

The Sub Rosa design team created the identity for the latest addition to the company family, housed in the same historic building on West 12th Street: Calliope, an interiors store opened by Michael and Caroline Ventura offering furniture, home goods and chance encounters in the West Village.

    Expertise

The color palette was inspired by the handsomely aged sage-green of a wall in the back of the store, which slides open into Caroline’s goldsmithing studio. The typography is a conversation between masculine and feminine voices – reflective of the founders’, and the harmony found in the wares themselves: eclectic yet curated, intricate yet uncomplicated,

vintage yet bespoke, contemporary yet lasting. The informational elements sit flexibly in a columned grid system, with primary – and uniquely cheeky – messaging floating above. There is also a suite of whimsical illustrations for use in promoting the store’s Field Trip experiences (including woodworking classes, indigo dyeing and more).
