Calliope Branding

The Sub Rosa design team created the identity for the latest addition to the company family, housed in the same historic building on West 12th Street: Calliope, an interiors store opened by Michael and Caroline Ventura offering furniture, home goods and chance encounters in the West Village.

The color palette was inspired by the handsomely aged sage-green of a wall in the back of the store, which slides open into Caroline’s goldsmithing studio. The typography is a conversation between masculine and feminine voices – reflective of the founders’, and the harmony found in the wares themselves: eclectic yet curated, intricate yet uncomplicated,

vintage yet bespoke, contemporary yet lasting. The informational elements sit flexibly in a columned grid system, with primary – and uniquely cheeky – messaging floating above. There is also a suite of whimsical illustrations for use in promoting the store’s Field Trip experiences (including woodworking classes, indigo dyeing and more).

Online shopping never includes the smells, sights and chance encounters that can make a shopping experience special. Cool Hunting, "Calliope: NYC's newest design store is more than a retail space, it's an experience"
"For us we wanted to have a shop in the building that was a mouthpiece or a revolving door into the culture and the world that we're participating in." - Michael Ventura
